Where your wedding happens is one of the first — and biggest — decisions you will make. In and around Ayodhya, most families choose between an open lawn or farmhouse, a tent or shamiana setup, or a banquet hall. Each has real advantages. The right choice depends on your guest count, season, budget and how much freedom you want with the decor.
Start with your guest count
Everything begins with numbers. A rough, honest guest count tells you how much space you need for seating, dining, the stage, the mandap and parking. Guests do not all sit at once — but at peak moments like the jaimal, almost everyone wants to be close to the stage, so plan for that crowd.
Open lawns and farmhouses
Lawns give you space and flexibility. You can design the layout from scratch, and they photograph beautifully with evening lighting.
- Best for: large guest lists and couples who want a custom theme.
- Plan for: weather backup, power supply, washrooms and lighting on every path.
Tents and shamianas
A well-planned tent setup can turn almost any open ground — including a family plot or rooftop — into a comfortable, elegant venue. Modern tents can include side walls, flooring, chandeliers, and cooling or heating depending on the season.
A tent is not a compromise. With the right draping, lighting and flowers, guests often cannot tell they are not in a permanent venue.
Banquet halls
Banquet halls offer convenience: air conditioning, washrooms, parking and power backup are usually built in. They are a sensible choice for summer or monsoon weddings and for smaller guest lists. The trade-off is often less freedom with decor, timings and outside vendors, so read the rules carefully.
Questions to ask on a site visit
- How many guests can be seated comfortably, and how many at dinner?
- Is there enough parking, and who manages it?
- What are the power capacity and generator arrangements?
- Are outside caterers, decorators and DJs allowed?
- Are there restrictions on music timings or fireworks?
- Where will the mandap go, and is there space for the havan?
Visit your shortlisted venue at the same time of day as your main function. A lawn that looks perfect at noon can feel very different at 10 pm — which is exactly why good lighting matters so much.
